Figures are computed from the City of Los Angeles building-permit dataset pi9x-tg5x on the LA City Open Data portal. We filter to permits where use_desc = 'Accessory Dwelling Unit' and aggregate with Socrata (SoQL) queries: permit counts and units added by issue year and by ZIP code, plus average square footage and valuation over permits where those fields are present.
The report renders server-side from a cached snapshot that refreshes daily, so the page stays fast without re-querying the open-data API on every visit. This snapshot was pulled August 17, 2026. Because LADBS updates its permit records over time, historical counts may shift slightly between pulls as backdated or amended permits are added.
Permit data shows the demand — these guides help you act on it with vetted, CSLB license-verified pros.
